Thank you for visiting our committee's website. I started this kind of serial project so that everyone could know a little bit about the Keio-Waseda game. I would like to introduce it while incorporating the unique perspective of the members.
By the way, the first memorable event was the Keio-Waseda game."Start"I would like to introduce about I think that many people can imagine and guess from the founders and eras of each university, but this time I would like you to know a little more about the detailed history.
Today, Keio-Waseda games are held in many sports, and both players and fans are passionate about it. It was on November 21, 1903, in the 36th year of the Meiji era (1903) that the first ``Keio-wassen'' was held among all the competitions. The event is baseball. This match, which was challenged by Waseda University, was held at the Mita Tsunamachi Baseball Stadium (Tsunamachi Sports Ground), which was located on the west side of the current Mita Campus. Publicly known as the 1st Waseda-Keio baseball game, records show that the cram school baseball club won 11-9.
At that time, the Waseda University baseball club was only a few years old, compared to the cram school baseball club, which had been officially established for more than 10 years and had a proven track record. was whispered. However, it turned out to be a very close match that greatly overturned expectations from the beginning, and the newly emerging Waseda University baseball club put up a good fight, and the Keio side began to evaluate Waseda University as a good rival.
After this match, both schools promised to hold a regular match, and the traditional "Keiso match" with a glorious history will begin.
By the way, the regatta Keio-Waseda game was held in 1905, and the rugby Keio-Waseda game was first held in 1922. Many of the other sports started in the 1920s, and all of them have a history of more than a century.
Next time, I will tell you about the turmoil of "interruption" that came several years after the start of the regular season.
